If you would like to use copies of works in a library, a museum, an archive or another collection, but cannot locate the rights holders, a license from ProLitteris according to Common Tariff 13 (CT 13) may be an option.

How do I apply for a license?

You may use orphan without the consent of the rights holders if you confirm to ProLitteris with a form that you have searched various databases but have not found the rights holders. The copy of the you wish to use must come from a Swiss memory institution (library, educational institution, museum, collection, archive of a broadcasting organization). The use of orphan works is subject to a fee according to (⁠⁠).

For large quantities of works, an may be an option.

Request a license

Carry out the research using the checklist linked below. Then complete the notification form linked below and send it to our customer service. We will examine your request, in particular the intended purpose of use and the works concerned. We will then determine the scope of the license and the royalty. For ongoing uses, e.g. online, an annual license is possible.
